Spring was moving in the air above and in the earth below and around him, pene-trating even his dark and lowly little house with its spirit of divine discontent and longing.
...he suddenly flung down his brush on the floor, said, "Bother!" and "O blow!" and also "Hang spring-cleaning!"
.....he scraped and scratched and scrabbled and scrooged, and then he scrooged again and scrabbled and scratched and scraped, working busily with his little paws and muttering to himself, "Up we go! Up we go!" till at last, pop! his
snout came out into the sunlight and he found himself rolling in the warm grass of a great meadow.
"This is fine! he said to himself. "This is better than whitewashing!" The sunshine struck hot on his fur, soft breezes caressed his heated brow...
Jumping off all his four legs at once, in the joy of living and the delight of spring without its cleaning, he pursued his way across the meadow...

I've been feeling a lot like Mole lately...guess it's Spring Fever! I'm drawn out into the sunshine to putter and potter about.... mostly with a shameful lack of accomplishment....just taking pleasure in the warmth of the sun, the sound of a breeze stirring the pines and the greening of the flower beds...
I hope you're enjoying spring as well...

Luckily my office doesn't have a window otherwise I'd spend my day staring outside:} I just get completely shocked every time I step outside at 5PM and realize the sun is still shining and I'm not shivering! I LOVE spring.
I love spring, too, though I've been having ups and downs, what with the high winds bringing us chills every few days. However, I finally did something I've always wanted to do -- actually moved some of my strawberry plants from the dry, caliched granite into my strawberry pots -- whoda ever thunk it...
Hah -- time for a Jabberwocky meme. The captcha word below is kisedom which surely refers to that famous radio program, "The College of Musical Knowledge". Remember it?
I have that Wind in the Willows book... illstrations by Arthur Rackham???
Ratty always scared me when I was little.
One of the best starts to a book, ever.
Glad spring is finding you!
Spring! I'll sure be glad to get back to Wasilla and watch Spring spring on us there. Denver weather is crazy. It was almost 90 day before yesterday. Today, it's barely 50. Wedding TOMORROW! I finally have all my kids married off.
Happy spring MB!
Congrats on the strawberries GJ.
I'm (as usual) a bit confused on the jabberwocky meme, but you can tell me more?
Hi Bec:)
Sham, a must read for every kid!
Lizzie! By now you're back in the sunny climes of Alaska, leaving dreary old Denver behind. I know in my heart that it was a GREAT wedding:)
sigh. I do love Wind in the Willows. Thank you for including the text and dreamy picture, too.
Since the stairs are now too challenging again for me, I find myself sitting out on the bedroom balcony, just gazing out at the horses and mountains and gorgeous sky, feeling the warmth on my skin.
Spring. Love it. I'm just hoping that Spring is REALLY here for good now. We've had snow storms as late as June up here.
Enjoy your puttering :)
~Lisa
